The initial data is in, and things aren’t what many of us thought they would be. Our people aren’t returning to church as fast as we would like. Those who have reopened are only having 20 to 50% of their worship attendance. The new energy around online engagement has settled down, and digital viewership is even declining. The virus is spiking, and many church leaders are discouraged.
Despite this, there is some good news!
There is a way forward. Jesus tells us that the “gates of hell shall not prevail against the church!” There is a way to thrive moving forward, but we can no longer assume things will eventually go back to normal.
While we all hate the phrase “new normal,” we must consider a new normal for our church. Our future will demand that we envision a more robust church, one that is bulletproof.
